Connectivity

I’m using DHCP, how do I find the IP address of my Securus server?
A. If the Securus client software is running on your PC, hover over the Securus icon in the Windows System Tray and a popup box will show you the IP address of the Securus Server.

Alternatively, on the Securus server look at the LCD display; this will show the current IP address.

I’m using DHCP for my Securus server but it occasionally reboots/releases & renews. How can I make sure that my Securus server always receives the same IP address as part of its lease?
A. Good procedure recommends allocating a permanent IP address to servers.  Most DHCP servers allow you to tie a MAC address to an IP address. See your DHCP server documentation for how to do this and also look at pages 2 & 3 of the Administrators Installation Guide & Help Manual (IP Config & LCD Menu System).

I am trying to make a web connection to my Securus server. However Internet Explorer shows me an error page, even though I am sure that I am entering the correct IP address e.g. http://10.0.0.1. in the address bar. What’s the problem?
A. If you use a proxy server, you need to tell Internet Explorer not to use the proxy
server when attempting to connect to the Securus Server (These steps refer to Internet Explorer; the steps differ for other web browsers.).
. 1. Either right-click on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop and select properties or on the Internet Explorer menu bar select Tools/Options:

2. On the Connections tab select the LAN Settings… button;

3. In the Proxy Server section, select the Advanced button. (If the Use a Proxy Server check box in the Proxy Server section is not checked and you cannot select the Advanced button, the problem lies elsewhere);

4. In the Exceptions section, enter your Securus Server’s IP address into the “Do not use the proxy server for addresses beginning with” box, making sure not to disturb any other entries and separating entries with a semi-colon;

5. Close all configuration windows using the OK buttons. You should now be able to bring up the Securus Server Web Management Interface in Internet Explorer.

When the Securus client starts up after logon, how does it search for the Securus server?

A. This is a multi-answer question;
1. The client will broadcast to discover the server address;

2. The server IP address is not stored by the client unless configured to so (see Q4. below)

3. Securus server uses UDP port 87. The web server uses TCP port 80. The client uses a dynamic port no.

4. To force the client to communicate with a server, simply include the IP address in the command line when writing to the registry auto-run entry

Permissions

How do permissions work?
A. Client permissions are automatically set by the installer when the client setup.exe is extracted.

How do I know if I have Securus administrator rights?
A. When you right click on the Securus icon in the Windows System Tray, if you are logged in as an administrator, there are several items presented on the popup menu.

If you are not logged in as an administrator, there is only a ‘Version’ option available.

How does Securus know which users should have administrator rights and which users shouldn’t?
A. When a user logs on to a workstation where the Securus Client is installed, Securus checks to see if the Windows username matches a Securus username.

If it does then Securus assigns the rights associated through the Securus username.

If it does not, Securus creates a Securus user account with the same name as the Windows user account and assigns the rights associated through the Default Group.
